Get In Your Groove

I entered a daily writing contest this month to get back in my groove. Over the holidays I slacked off on my daily writing offline and here in WDC. Daily writing doesn't always produce stellar work, but it keeps the pathways to creativity open and running. Instead of searching for something to write about, prompts or other things like music or photos get you going.

Sometimes a really great idea will pop up from some flash fiction you wrote for a prompt. Feel free to move it to private or take it offline and expand on the story. It could become a fabulous piece of writing. Either way, in the long run, you'll have some fun stuff in your portfolio to look back on.

Joining contests and activities help keep you active in the community and our site vibrant. If you have an idea and need help formatting a contest or activity, reach out to one of our awesome Moderators, they can help or at least direct you to helpful links within our site.

If you're a long-term member and want to experiment with something new, find a partner to help you out! I love seeing all the fun holiday-related contests and activities, it really gets me in the spirit. Help keep our community strong and as always, Write On!

This month's question: Do some of your contest entries turn into short stories or novels? Send in your answer below! *Down* Editors love feedback!

Excerpt: Whatever your musical tastes may be, most of us can agree that music plays an integral part in our lives. Many of us can remember where we were or what we were doing when we heard a particular song, of how it inspired us, brought us to tears, or made us giddy with happiness. This contest hopes to recapture those memories by encouraging you to listen to a favorite album again and allow the songs to inspire your creativity through writing.

I wasted so many merit badges offered free by Writing.Com in the past months and years by not being able to utilize them and give them out to someone deserving. So I thought, why not give it to a deserving poet?
