Letter from the editor

Where do you write?

Last month I discussed writing styles, and I asked how you write. Do you write by and or with a keyboard?

This month I'm asking where do you write?

Do you have a dedicated writing spot? Or is it wherever you can take your laptop or notebook?

I've seen the stereotype of writers going to a coffeeshop or crowded place to work on their writing. Personally, I find loud environments too distracting. Of course, any environment can be distracting, right? We get reminded of other obligations and duties, other hobbies, etc. that could take up our time.

I would think for most people, the best route would be routine. Come up with a time and place that works for you and stick with it. For me, my schedule changes from week to week, so I try to plan things out ahead of time. I find where my pockets of free time will be and plan accordingly.

It's my understanding that certain scents can be linked to productivity. Some studies show that things like peppermint and citrus can help you be more productive. What I believe, too, is that certain scents can create associations in our minds. A certain smell can remind us of certain things and can create a comforting atmosphere. Maybe try using scent to create a familiar atmosphere that will trigger a mood in you that tells you it's time to write. It can be worth giving it a try!

I'm really curious, though. Do you tend to write at home, in private and quiet? Or do you like being out in public spaces with other people around? What works best for you?

Take care, and as always, keep on writing! *Quill*

Feedback from my last newsletter "Contests & Activities Newsletter (July 26, 2023)Open in new Window., which discussed writing styles:

Great poll. I write on paper first and then edit on the computer. It's all about the creative process for that person. ~ StephBee Author Icon

I have definitely written this way, too! It feels natural to me to write this way.
