Letter from the editor

There are many ways to find inspiration to help us start writing or overcome a block. This week, we will go over a few ideas, and I'd love to hear from you with your ideas, too! To leave your feedback, send me a note via the comment section below.

*Flowery* Reading
I know, that seems obvious, right? What I'm suggesting is that you should expose yourself to new ideas and techniques by reading a variety of genres and writing styles. Doing this could inspire you to try a new technique or inspire new ideas.

*Flowery* Location, location, location
Do you usually sit at your desk and gaze out the window? To change your view, try heading out for a walk. You can also go to a coffee shop or diner and people-watch or eavesdrop. Pay attention to mannerisms, how folks dress, body language, etc. Trying different writing locations can spark new ideas.

*Flowery* Personal Experiences
Think about your life and experiences, things you may have wanted to do differently or again. How would you do these things differently?

*Flowery* Writing Prompts
Writing prompts can give your writing a jumpstart. Instead of taking a word (or words) at the standard definitions, grab a dictionary and look up other meanings or explore the etymology of a word.

*Flowery* Visit a Museum/Art Gallery
Many art forms, such as paintings, photographs, and sculptures, can be inspirational. Take it a step further by learning a bit about the artist.

*Flowery* Edit/Rewrite
Take one of your old pieces and rewrite it from a different perspective. Change the outcome, consider alternate what-ifs.

Have you tried any of these ideas, or have any of your own that have been successful? Tell me about it!

"An African Idiom we use just for fun is Sweating like a Christmas Goat."

*biglaugh* I'm guessing goat is Christmas fare in Africa.

"When I use or hear something like that, it helps to clarify the scene sometimes. That is assuming the reader understands the idiom. And thank you for listing my story "The Typewriter Talks"."

Very true, it helps to understand the idiom.

"Great list. Korean is a language filled with idiomatic expressions. Here are some of them. A few translate well, and a few require some cultural context to understand.

Thanks for sharing these interesting idioms. As with many languages, some things get lost in translation. It's the same with jokes in a foreign language.
