I think we can all agree that Writing.com is a site for writers. Writers use this site to showcase their work and to improve upon it, and the best way for them to do this is to write and receive reviews.
Writing reviews can also have a huge impact on your own writing by helping you look at the mechanics behind writing itself. By studying what works and what doesn't work in others' writing, you can use that information to improve your own writing.
So perhaps we can all also agree that Reviewing is just as important as Writing here.
There are a number of Reviewing activities on this site, in the form of review request forums, contests, and even forums dedicated to discussing reviewing. Let's take a look at some of these:
Review Request Forums
These are quite popular, and you can find a list of some of them on the "Find a Review Forum" page.
Review request forums ask for items to be reviewed, sometimes requesting a fee and frequently not requesting anything in return. These forum owners are often looking for items to review and generally offer guidelines as to what they're looking for or preferences for what they like to read and review.
An important thing to remember when setting up your review request forum is to make sure your guidelines are clear. A few things to consider would be the types of items and/or genres you will and will not review and any length limits.
Contests
Reviewing contests reward reviewers for their work, often focusing on several different aspects of reviewing. For instance, they may reward for "most in-depth review" as well as "most reviews completed" within the designated timeframe.
Hosting a contest for reviewing can be a very complicated process. (Anyone else remember EnduReview?) Plan for many participants and many reviews. Guest judges are a great idea to help with the judging process. Again, it's very important to set clear guidelines for any contest. Make sure your contestants know what is expected from them and upon what they are being judged.
Forums for Discussion
Reviewing is a subjective issue. That is, there are many different opinions on the subject. There are many types of reviews, as well as many types of reviewers. It only makes sense that there are places here to discuss the subject.
Topics may range from tips on reviewing to feedback for received reviews. Reviewers can share tips and advice with one another in these forums, thank others for given reviews, or even rant about reviews and reviewing.
Reviewing, for many of us, is a large part of our experiences at Writing.com. There are a lot of ways to be actively involved in reviewing, and there are countless benefits to reviewing. Whether it's learning more about our own writing, helping out a fellow writer, or even gaining some extra gps, reviewing can be a fun and beneficial activity.
For additional benefits to Reviewing, read the information provided in "Reviewing @ Writing.Com" .
And for those of you seeking reviews, also be sure to visit "Please Review"

As a guest editor, I don't have any feedback comments to share, though I'd like to pose a few questions. What are your favorite reviewing activities? Why do you review and what is the best reward for reviewing? |
