Letter from the editor

Lot’s wife is an example of transmogrification, when she looked back at the cities of Sodom and Gomorra she became pillar of salt. The transformation of Mrs. Lot came about because of her own disobedience. The instructions the family received when fleeing Sodom was not to look back. However, Mrs. Lot looked back and became a salt pillar.

Transmogrification, like all forms of transformation, results from something. Some transformations occur because a vampire bites the victim. Others occur when the moon is full. While other transformations result from the person or victim ingesting a magic potion or becomes the recipient of a spell or a curse.

Metamorphoses, transformation, or transmogrification requires a cause. In fantasy stories, the cause is a bit, a scratch, a potion, a spell, or a curse. In science fiction, when transformation is covered, the cause is genetic or the result of a technological snafu, i.e. The Fly.

I have a challenge for you; write a flash fiction (300 to 1,000 words) or short story (1,000 to 3,000 words) in which transmogrification affects a character in some humors or bizarre way. The deadline is May 15, at midnight writing.com time. I will include the most creative in the next newsletter. Please submit your stories using bitem format to me by the deadline.

journalmethis Author Icon writes: In the Greek myth of Persephone, Demeter (her mother) was the reason that the seasons changed due to the fact that Demeter was without her daughter for two seasons, she was sad and (being the godess of the Earth) did not want anything to grow, so she caused Winter and Fall where everything died, and then everything was beautiful and happy again in Spring and Summer :)

creatress Author Icon writes: When I'm writing a charater their name is usually functional or based of their personality traits. It may not sound like a name at all.
