Writing style is the manner by which an author chooses to write to his or her audience. A style reveals both the writer's personality and voice, but it also shows how she or he perceives the audience. The choice of a conceptual writing style molds the overall character of the work.. |

Your writing style, and the manner in which you choose to express yourself will evolve naturally over time, a combination of your personality, your reading choices, and to an extent, the decisions you make consciously while writing. Many new writers often struggle to determine just what their style is, however thinking about style too consciously can result in a mannered, stilted prose. There are some basic style rules to keep in mind as you begin to write:
1. Read
You cannot be a successful writer if you don’t read. That isn’t opinion; that’s fact. All writers read, and all good writers read a lot. Read voraciously, read broadly, read in the genre you love, read outside of it. Don’t write off any genre or type of book as being without redeeming qualities or lessons to teach you. The more you read, the more you’ll discover how stories are put together. You'll get a feel for how good novels are paced and plotted and how bad ones fall apart. It's possible you will develop a hunger to write specific stories, or come across areas of fiction where nobody is writing the kind of books you want to read. reading is a fundamental aspect of writing. Don’t neglect it.
2. Write
The more you write, the better your writing will be, and the easier writing will become. Do not worry if there are flaws in your first draft; instead, remember that most successful writers make numerous revisions. It doesn't matter what you write, just write and write often.
3. Vocabulary
Writers should always strive to increase their vocabulary. When writing stick to words you use in real life. If you are using words to sound impressive, you're likely to misuse it or use it awkwardly. Work on building your vocabulary so that you can choose the stronger, more descriptive words in your writing.
There’s no one right style; your own style is really just a compilation of the things you’re comfortable writing about and methods you use to write. Some people have a very flowery, flowing writing style. Others write in short bursts of thought and focus entirely on the main points of what they write. You could be either, or most likely you fall somewhere in between with your style. What matters isn’t learning a style, but finding your own style and developing it.
