About This Newsletter

Hey! It's Marci again, and this time, I'm here to talk about Birthdays and growing up. My whole family, except me, have their birthdays all around WDC's celebrations. See what it means to me this year.

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! - Dr. Seuss

It takes a long time to become young. - Pablo Picasso

Letter from the editor

It’s been a big week at our house. We have three birthdays in six days. But the big news in our house is that my son is fifteen years old and can now go get his driving permit. *Shock2* Watch out America! This could get ugly. *Laugh* Well, we hesitate to do this, but I think he is almost ready. I mean, when you are fifteen and sixteen years old, you have the world by the tail. All you think about, as a teen boy, is girls, cars, driving, and girls. Oh, did I say girls more than once?
My son has always liked girls, but now it’s taking on a more serious note as he is almost old enough to date. Now when did that happen? Wasn’t he just giving me hugs and kisses and telling me he was going to marry me when he grew up? It seems like it was just this morning. But, alas, it was a long, long time ago. Now, don’t mind my reminiscing. I’m just a mom whose children are growing up too fast. I’m sure none of you know the feeling. *Smirk*
Back to the girls… These days, everything my son does revolves around girls. His hair has to be perfect, his clothes AND shoes have to be cool, and most of all, he must act smooth. This involves acting aloof to whatever is happening around him. He’s always been easy going, but now there’s a swagger to it. So when the girls come up and talk to him, he just plays it cool. Then later he comes home all excited and can’t wait to tell me how much the girls like him. *Laugh*
My son has a t-shirt that suits him perfectly. It reads, “Stand back! This could get awesome.” And that’s him. I mean, the boy exudes self-confidence, but never arrogance. So my idea, as I sit here thinking about what happened to my little baby, is why can’t he put all that energy into his school work? *Rolleyes* I mean if he paid attention to his math like he does his hair, he’d be a genius. And if he would get as creative with his writing as he does with trying to get a girl’s phone number, he might be the next Poe or Hemingway! And he will study that driver’s manual from the DMV, but heaven forbid he spend that much time studying World Geography.
So as Mister Awesome goes about the business of growing up, I will just sit back and watch him with the same loving eyes that I always have. But now, I have to watch him all the closer because of all those girls!

Until next time… Live… Laugh… and Write! *PenP*

Well, I have a few funny food stories but the one which stands out for me is when I was in my first Air Force Tech School. One of my friends asks me if I want to go to a Sushi Restaurant with her. Well, I've never had Sushi but always wanted to try so said yes. She ordered a platter with a variety of Sushi on it and I was actually enjoying it. She even had me try the Wasabi on the Sushi. (not too much of course) Now many of you know that if you have someone who takes you out for Sushi for the first time, your friend is somehow going to sneak in that huge smothering of Wasabi on one of those pieces of Sushi and rice. That's what happened when I left the table for a moment and came back. She said, "try the salmon, you'll love it." Of course, I tried it and between the salmon and rice was so much Wasabi my mouth started to burn. Now, anything that hot, drinking water does NOT help. It only makes worse and I'm lactose intolerant so couldn't drink milk. So there I sat chewing through that hot tasting Wasabi, rice, and Salmon. The curious thing is the longer I chewed the mixture the better it began to taste. (not to say I'd do it again) But the whole thing did provide quite a bit of amusement for my friend.

*Laugh* Bless your poor mouth. I can't even imagine.

What are some funny memories of your kids, siblings, or others growing up?
