Sweet Peggy Lee
I went to Hollywood, you see,
And there I met Miss Peggy Lee.
She chatted in a friendly way,
As if she'd known me many a day.
She looked so young and pretty there,
With sky-blue eyes and curly hair,
She wore a checkered gingham dress,
And told me of her deep distress.
She had a role on silver screen
As leading lady with James Dean,
And Gary Cooper played the part
Of Marshall Cade, who'd won her heart.
She wanted to perform a song,
A ballad of a love gone wrong,
And sing it for her cowboy tall,
At Lucky Jake's casino hall.
I could not help her in her plight,
But wished her well and said goodnight.
I left that Western movie set,
But that sweet dream stays with me yet.
