What-ho, dear Writing.com Members!
Welcome to a special 24th Writing.com Anniversary of this activity!
For the veterans, you are probably already aware of how this event is carried out, but for the fresh and jolly faces, welcome to the wonderful, wacky world of P.G. Wodehouse , where with the aid of his many memorable characters, you are one step closer to earning a merit badge (or more!) just by completing 'blind' challenges designed for you!
This is especially excellent if you've been trying to earn that elusive rare/new badge designed by our talented The StoryWitchress
But wait! This is not a solitary effort, for with the aid of some wonderful groups around Writing.com, the goal of this activity is - as always - to make you (newbies and oldies alike) more aware of ALL that this site has to offer. It should come as no surprise that we all tend to stick to what we're most comfortable with, and dare not push ourselves to
try new genres or activities.
We sincerely hope that you tackle the challenges with the aim to enjoy yourself and to learn, as well as to interact and participate in some of the groups featured below. They are more than willing to accept new members, and we have no doubt it will be worth your while!
How do I get started? ▼
The challenge will run for only one week - September 1st - September 7th - which means you must complete your challenges/tasks by the end of the week.
Select a character and write the name as a HEADER in the forum below.
Once all characters have been picked, the challenges will be revealed. Click on the drop-down menu to see what tasks and Merit Badges OR prizes are to be earned.
I've seen my challenges, but I'm not sure I like the genre/category. What do I do? ▼
Though the goal of this activity is to make you step outside your comfort zone, I realize that not everyone might be comfortable with any one particular genre.
You have two options.
1. Swap a challenge with another member (making sure both of you are in agreement and I am notified of the decision)
2. Forfeit the challenge and allow another member to take it.
I'd like to do the challenge, but I already have that merit badge. What do I do? ▼
Same rule as above. You can choose to swap with another member or simply pass and allow someone else to play.
When is the deadline for challenges to be completed? ▼
You have a week from the time/day challenge is posted. If you are able to finish ahead of time, good on you! If you are unable to complete the challenge, it is considered a forfeit.
How do I post my challenges or show proof of completion? ▼
Please create only ONE post listing ALL activities done for your particular challenge. It makes it easier to keep track.
What else do I need to know? ▼
Thoroughness. What does this mean? It means if you're going to do any part of the challenge, it must be done with 110% effort. (oh! I think there's a merit badge for that too!)
Reviews should be at minimum 500 characters (and not bogged with images).
Written entries must be edited before submission.
Notebook stops cannot be one-word-slap-n-dash responses. We are not expecting essays either.
Responses in forums should be well-thought-out and helpful. Again, we do not want to see slap-n-dash responses.
Bottom line, for everything you do here, you must do it with commitment - to earn that badge and to make you feel like you deserve it.
And last but not least...
To all those who participate in this activity and with help from THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! and the fine members of the P.G.Wodehouse Fan Club on Facebook, this exclusive merit badge and trinket will be in your collection for all to see!
So? Are you ready to play? Then let's get started!

Paranormal romance is defined as a sub genre of both romantic fiction and speculative fiction.
Paranormal romance focuses on romantic love and includes elements beyond the range of scientific explanation, blending together themes from the speculative fiction genres of fantasy and science fiction. Common hallmarks in paranormal romance are romantic relationships between humans and vampires, shapeshifters, ghosts, and other entities of a fantastic or otherworldly nature.
Beyond the more prevalent themes involving vampires, shapeshifters, ghosts, or time travel, paranormal romances can also include stories featuring characters with psychic abilities, like telekinesis or telepathy. Paranormal romance blends the real with the fantastic. The fantastic elements may be woven into an alternate version of our own world in an urban fantasy involving vampires, demons, and/or werewolves, or they may be more "normal" manifestations of the paranormal—humans with psychic abilities, witches, or ghosts.
In urban fantasy, many paranormal romance stories rely on the blend of contemporary life with the existence of supernatural or magically-empowered beings, human or otherwise; sometimes the larger culture is aware of the magical in its midst, sometimes it is not.
Read and review three paranormal romance short stories. Post links to the reviews.
Write a paranormal romance short story (1,000-3,000 words) using the criteria above. Include a word count at the end of the story.
