Facing the pain of causing pain

What am I supposed to do?
Walk away and say it's through?
Leave a broken man behind?
That isn’t right, that isn’t kind.

I’d be judged by God, I’m sure.
And truth be known, I've sinned before.
Suppose I’ll suffer in the end.
That’s the rules, they cannot bend.

Break the rules and there’s no chance.
Have to do the devils' dance.
Lose my soul and that's the end.
Never see the hope again.

But hope I haven't seen for days.
Each smile is met with stony gaze.
Each gentle greeting goes unheard
And from your lips, no kindly word.

Hope's a shining, beckoning light,
Nothing like our silent fight.
You battle for supremacy.
I battle for the right to be.

I'm weary of this draining life,
The fear of new impending strife.
And doubts you cast upon my mind,
About myself, are so unkind.

The web we've woven holds me tight.
I cannot speak, I will not fight.
I know the wounds inside your soul.
I dream my love can make you whole.

So hopes and dreams my choices bind.
Confusion reigns within my mind.
I still don't know what I should do,
Save myself, or die with you.
