NOTICE:
Before you read the story I ask you to note this is my new account, but previously I had another account which has this story. It was noticed in Noticing Newbies Newsletter, and later on I deleted this story and my others with the account. But I assure you this is not a copied story. If you have any questions or concerns, email me. Also note my other account had a fake age. Other than that please enjoy my story.

This story is based on a short poem I wrote, and it is written for fun.

The Silent Arrow

The battle was grim. He could see it. The Romans were too strong. They would retreat. They had no choice. He would have to call retreat, the archers would shoot their arrows, and they would run. He grimaced. A general's nightmare. A Roman straying too close was swiftly cut down from the general's sword.

"υποχωρώ, υποχώρηση!Retreat!" the general called. Ancient Greek. Retreat. His men froze, not believing their ears. Then they reacted. A volley of arrows rained down on the Romans, glinting in the torchlight. The army turned back and fled.

The general spotted a lone archer as he turned back. It was too late for him. His horse sprinted forward, shooting dust in its wake. This battle was over.

The archer heard the signal to retreat. But he couldn't. It's wasn't that he didn't want to. It's that he couldn't. A strange force compelled him to stay. In a trance-like state, he drew an arrow from the bunch stuck in the ground. He could see the sun coming up from above the mountains, see a Roman walking to him, and hear the Roman soldiers cheer. A single drop of sweat fell down his forehead.

He put the arrow on the string. He pulled the draw and released. The arrow soared in air, upwards. it shone with a fierce light, seeming to be made of fire, all soldiers in the field looked up at it. You could hear the sheer silence on the field. You could feel the desperation, the sadness, from the arrow. The arrow faced the sun, turning down. The sun shone on the arrow, giving the blue fire from the arrow a red tinge.

The silence was broken. By the arrow. You could hear, and even feel a screech. A scream. It hurt the soldier’s ears, but none could cover their ears. It was a feeling.

It turned down to a Roman soldier. The man reached up and caught it. All around that soldier could feel pure love emitting from his soul, the arrow was now silenced. Souls came out from the arrow, bursting at all sides. The soldier fell to the ground, his body crumpled. A white blast emitted from his body.

All hit by the white fell, never to live again. Both sides fell. They all disappeared. Except one man. The man who caught the arrow.
But all around, souls were free; the man has fulfilled his destiny.

The arrow's gone, leaving one desolate man, with memories that would haunt his soul forever.

The Silent Arrow

I pull the draw, let it twang,
The arrow flies with naught a bang,
The arrow speeds, the arrow soars
The arrow makes naught a roar,
The arrow flies with naught a cry,

Oh the silent arrow,

The silent arrow speeds up meets the sun’s stare with a fiery glare,
It turns back round makes all but a sound,
And what was intended to kill came not with a bloody spill,
Instead it came with naught a cry,
The silent arrow let it fly,

Oh the silent arrow
It comes back with a thousand souls,
All play a vital role,
The arrow screams to be free,
The man fulfills his destiny,
He catches it in mid-air,
Reduces its fiery stare,

Oh the screeching arrow,

He gives his love,
Pure as a dove,
Gives to all the souls,
Lets them play their vital roles,
The arrow's screeching dies,
The arrow with naught a cry,

Oh the silent arrow,

The man crumples to the ground,
Makes naught a sound,
But all around, they are free,
He has fulfilled his destiny,

Oh the silent arrow,

The arrow's gone with naught a trace,
Leaves but one man in its wake.

Where has the arrow gone?
