A very difficult poem to express via the images that inspired it, based on my experiences. |
-Tied to Teeth and Mouth- by Keaton Foster Carnivores galore Tied to teeth and mouth Always looking for a feast What can be eaten Who can we consume The ache of being fed too much Is only rivaled by the ache Of wanting to devour it all. We are so damn sure that The weak are meant to die And that the overtly strong Are meant to get by That we do what it takes Without regret, without haste This world is not fair This prison is not equal Survival is no more a right Than being born. In such a crownless universe Consumption is the only king The ruler and master of everything All that once made us More human than beast is gone All of our compassion Has been forever misplaced What remains is only animalistic. The forest is chalk full Of many terrifying creatures Each one equally more frightening We are sure to lure our victims in With kind words and promises As soon as they are comfortable As soon as they let their guard down We rip them limb from limb And consume with ease. Suckling on their juices makes us fat Such whales of excess we’ve become Unable to move, unable to escape In time we ourselves become easier prey For those climbing up through the ranks Such an endless cycle of gluttony Is tied to teeth and mouth. Free of a soul and any doubt We are sure that we Every single damn one of us Is the superior one of our species Annihilation through redundancy Obliteration through causality Those fortunate to remain Will starve to death Those who reach the end Will find truth in only nothing. In the case of all humankind In this wilderness of time The strongest will not survive Because every single one of us Even the apex predators Of our combined society Is tied to teeth and mouth… Tied to Teeth and Mouth Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2013 |
