I Thought I OD'd Last Night

Thought I OD'd last night,
The crazy dreams I had,
Visions of things unimaginable,
Things I thought impossible.
Betrayal of the heart,
Accusations to freeze the hottest soul,
Dreams changing to nightmares,
A loving touch turning into a slap to the face.
Loving and carefree,
Soaring above clouds of despair,
Suddenly shot down,
A dove mistaken for a vulture.
Beauty and desire changed,
Ugly and deceit rose proud.
A tear that formed on a loving cheek,
Fell to the ground,
Igniting a firestorm of no escape...no survivors.
A silhouette in the shadow reaches out,
Only to continue past,
Picking up its guilt that fueled the flame.
Laughter gurgled in its throat,
Vanishing through the fire,
Its ember and ash blows away,
Disappearing for the moment.
It settled deep within my throat,
Choking me, cutting my air,
Leaving me lifeless on the ground
The ground the was no longer there.
Ears ringing, I rose...my soul.
My heartbeat is faint, pulse weak.
I see myself lying there unable to move,
Helpless...almost lifeless.
Bright light engulfs me...
I wake from slumber,
Sheets entangle me
The sun is bright today.
I turn to share my dream,
Remembering I am alone...then it hits me
I didn't OD last night.
