Life is Good âWhat happened here?â Mom said, standing in Jeffâs doorway. It was usually messy, but right now it looked like a tornado hit it! The bed was strewn with most of the contents of Jeffâs closet. You had to walk around the toys and clothes on the floor, all emptied from his dresser, his toy boxes and who knows where else! Jeff looked up, kicking himself for not locking the door. âAh, I was looking for something.â âWhat?â Mom said, in her serious voice. âJust something I was going to bring to school today.â âYour homework?â Mom said, somewhat sarcastically, âbecause that would certainly be differentâŚâ Jeff could tell she was calming down by her making a joke about his homework. Still, he wasnât sure it was a good time to tell her⌠âUm, sort of, actually. Weâre supposed to bring in something for âShow and Tellâ today. I had something good, but I canât find it.â âWhat, and, where did you see it last?â Mom asked, now very calmly. âI can find it. You can go make breakfast like you usually do.â âBreakfast is ready, why donât you tell me what really happened here.â âThis is what really happened.â Jeff finally said, knowing there was no getting out of it. âI caught a mouse in the garage, and I was going to bring it to schoolâŚâ Mom didnât explode, much to Jeffâs surprise. âPerhaps it got out of your roomâŚâ she said, in a voice that Jeff knew too well. âItâs in the kitchen in a bottle, it will leave this house FOREVER, when you go to schoolâŚâ âThanks Mom!â Jeff said, running to the kitchen. âAnd by the way, youâre grounded, all week! And this room needs a complete cleaning, today!â Jeff still smiled. Life is good. |
