Penguin Family Vacation

Entry for July '25 Writing 4 Kids contest.

Chuck and Marv's eyes met, and it was love for life. They were two penguins among many at the zoo. Everyone was pairing off so they did too. After some time, all the other penguin pairs managed to find their eggs and began incubating them. Chuck and Marv finally found an egg-like object, and they too began incubating it. They didn't know how these things worked and didn't realize they had adopted a rock.

The zookeepers spent time looking at all of the eggs of the other pairs. Borrowing them and returning them, but for some unfathomable reason they didn't check on Chuck and Marv's "egg." Then one day one of the zookeepers did. When it was returned, Chuck and Marv noticed it seemed a little different. They continued incubation, though. Around the same time all the other pairs' eggs hatched, Chuck and Marv's chick broke its way out too. They named her Cherry. She grew up on par with the other chicks.

The next breeding season, Cherry didn't find a mate, so she helped her dads rear their new chick. His name was Biff. The next year, Cherry and Biff helped raise Stew. They were a happy, if unconventional, penguin family. Late the the third year, The zookeepers helped them pack their bags and the whole happy family went on vacation to the beach. All of them enjoyed the ocean, though it was a bit warm. They returned home just in time for another breeding season.
