Two contests in one!!! A new form of poetry every month. Round 9: The Pleiades |
** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** Okay, so this is how it works: I will give you a form of poetry that you must write in and also a prompt to help you along the way. There will be two separate contests. The first contest is to follow the prompt, the second contest is to come up with your own original poem in the same form. I will try my best to keep this going as a monthly poetry contest... wow I'm getting so excited!!! Guidlines: You must only submit poems that are in the form I've selected for the current round or I will disregard them. You do not have to enter both contests. I just thought the prompt would be a nice way of getting accustomed to the poetry form and then you could come up with something on your own. You are limited to only two entries per round. One entry for the prompt portion, and one entry of your own creation within the poetry form. All entries must be in the
I don't care how graphic your poems are - I don't think there should be a limit to what you have to say. Just remember not to post directly into the forum. (use the
You may post old poems for the freewrite portion of the contest as long as they follow the poetry form for the current round. However, only new poems can be posted for the prompt portion of the poem. Please no off topic posts, e-mail me if you have any questions. Oh yeah, we can't forget the most important rule of all: HAVE FUN!!! Okay I think that about covers it.... Past winners and rounds: "Invalid Item" ROUND 9: The Pleiades November 20th - December 20th "PLEIADES: This titled form was invented in 1999 by Craig Tigerman, Sol Magazine's Lead Editor. Only one word is allowed in the title, followed by a single seven-line stanza. The first word in each line begins with the same letter as the title. Example: Mything Men who are from Mars perhaps come Masking insecurity by Mything dreams in Midas-power, touching Much in hopes of gold, yet Missing Venus' point. Craig Tigerman, Moline, IL" The above is taken from the following website: http://pages.prodigy.net/sol.magazine/pl01form.htm The Prompt Round 9: Use the following word as the title of your poem and the beginning letter of each line. Withering So Withering must be your title and the beginning of each line must start with W. I would also like it if you could write the poem in iambic pentameter (ten syllables to each of the seven lines) but this is optional. **please specify, in the subject line of your post, whether your entry is following the prompt above. The Prizes!!! 1st Place: 10,000 Gps or an awardicon (you decide) 2nd Place: 5,000 Gps 3rd Place: 2,500 Gps I've come up with a new rule regarding the amount of entries required in order for me to award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes: There must be at least 3 entries in order for 1st place to be awarded, at least 9 entries for 2nd place to be awarded, and at least 15 for 3rd place to be awarded. (So in order for six winners there must be at least 30 entries- 15 for the prompt portion and 15 for the freewrite portion) The remaining amount of Gps promised for the round (if there are less than 15 entries) will be divided amongst all participants. ALL GPS WILL STILL BE GIVEN OUT-even if there are too few entries. Remember: there will be a winner for the prompt contest and a winner for the original creation contest (original creation within the poetry form that is). The prizes are the same for both contests and there will be a total of six winners!!! (plus any honorable mentions I feel deserve a reward) Okay, get writing... you have until December 20th!
