World War I hero Pete Banning won't tell anyone why he murdered the preacher. The journey is gripping throughout the entire story, answers sought, old wounds opened, new wounds discovered. But why did he murder the preacher? This question is the motivation for the entire book and will keep you reading (or listening) to the very last word. With an executed war hero, his wife in an institution, their adult children looking for answers, and the preacher's wife suing for the land that's been in the Banning family for generations... there is never a dull moment. | ||

Too long! I invested 18 hours of listening to this story while traveling and was very disappointed with the ending. Neither my husband or I was satisfied with the outcome after all the time it took to get there. | ||

I wanted to rewrite the ending! I realize not all stories have fairy tale endings, but I feel cheated with this one. | ||
