A Journal to impart knowledge and facts

July 22, 2015

I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.

I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.

I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Congratulations on your virtual blogging adventure!

The recipe would be a disaster if I did not use spices that I found at the market when I was looking for a chicken. I should have looked in the barn I would have had more service. It does not help to go shopping in any random store you happen to enter.

Congratulations on your virtual blogging adventure! Hi.

It isn't enough to know what the prompt says. In the USA, we fight a never-ending battle with wealth between the haves and have nots. This is too vague to bring out all the sociology involved in pay and giving.

I have studied a lot about Yoga because of Ezekial. I know about Karma because of Budda. I've read about people who gave everything they had and walked away to start something different. I'm sure they learned something about life when they accomplished this.

Jesus gave his life. A blood sacrifice from God who does not believe in blood sacrifice. Even Abraham was not required to give up his son in blood sacrifice.

I think the quote should read "when you learn to give, not take." It is a slight change of meaning. But if you give someone will get and they should not feel wronged, because they get something freely given.

Blogging comments are not a criticism of the reader or the Prompt.

That's all folks.

See Ya!

Cynthia Rylant says, "Food is better in November than any other time of the year.” Do you agree or disagree with Ms. Rylant. Are there certain foods that make November more special than other months?

In the northeastern part of the USA harvest begins near the end of august and continues until weather kills whatever is left.

Personally, I eat things I like all year round. If I'm not too lazy to cook them. I think more of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. Jellied cranberry sauce is good with smoothies any time of year. My favorite meals are a salad and a burger or a piece of fish or a piece of chicken. Keith needs more, so I cook more. Then I eat more.

There are seasonal things I get more of like fresh tomatoes off the vine or corn on the cob off a roadside stand. Zucchiniand all kinds of squash. I guess harvest is what Thanksgiving is all about. As for the quote above, food is fresher in November but not necessarily better.

A balance of food intake and exercise is necessary.

The End.

“How beautifully leaves grow old. How full of light and color are their last days.” -John Burroughs
Let this quote about aging inspire your entry today.

signature dancing owl

Leaves are beautiful as they start to lose the lifegiving sap from a tree.

The human aging process is a lot different than a tree. The organic machine you live in continues to renew itself as long as you continue to feed it properly and give it exercise. You can slow the process of aging by your habits. Youthful habits are important to aging. When Mom and Dad said, go out and play. Or don't drink alcohol, take drugs, and smoke. It was advice that would help your aging processes to go more slowly. Your immune system has to fight anything that attacks the organs of your body. The Old Testament says we have at least 120 years to live on the earth. Even thinking fearful thoughts can attack the health of your body. Doctors try to find causes of aging all the time. Spiritual health has to also be taken into thoughts about the process.

The deciduous tree however is stuck in an environmental cycle. even though it loses its leaves, for a time it grows more. Trees die if attacked by bugs or bacteria. Death is a natural process for molecular beings on the earth.

Do species die if they lose their proper environment or do, they just mutate into a different species that can live on the earth in the new environment?

As I'm writing I'm reminded of "The Lion, The witch, and the Wardrobe." It was always winter because the witch brought the cold and fearful things upon the land. Where the Lion visited the snow melted the birds began to sing and people gave gifts. What secret do we still have to discover to stop death?

Congratulations on your virtual blogging adventure! owl for signature use

My dad was a veteran. He was enlisted late in WWII. He was just finishing boot camp and was assigned to drive Tanks. He broke his leg playing baseball during boot camp and never actually saw any action. It seemed to have an influence on the way he saw life.

My first husband was a staff sergeant in the Airforce. He spent two years in Vietnam. He was a sheet metal specialist. When Airplanes fly air pressure pops the rivets that hold sheet metal on the aircraft. Every aircraft has to be inspected every time it goes into the air for possible problems caused by flying. The experience of war causes changes in the way people think. I now believe he was experiencing PTSD when he returned but, it was not a big news thing then. He died in an automobile accident.

Both Richard and my dad were peace loving men who would always help someone they saw needed help. Quiet people with common sense. War is not worth what happens to the people who experience it.

Prompt: Taking risks
What is better, staying safe or taking a risk? Did you ever have to make such a choice, and would you do it again?

For me, staying safe is better. Yes, I have taken risks. Once jumped a horse over the wide part of a hay wagon on a dare. No, I would never do it again. There are other parts of my life that are at risk. I try to stay safe the best way I know how. As a child, I use to tell the truth as a natural part of life. Now, at my age I chose to tell the truth or at least facts that I think are true. That gains me a lot of anger from others. Many of the people I know live by telling lies. It makes for a difficult society to live in.

One time, before I went to college I was watching the news on TV. It was coverage of some disaster. The newscaster gave out information about the amount of people who had died in the disaster, about 5. I changed channels to another news. channel. Same disaster, newscasters estimate of casualties 100; changed channels again, newscasters estimate 23, Later in life during a journalism class I asked how 3 newscasters could give out such varied estimates of casualties in such close proximity of time. The answer, because those are the amounts the media were being told by people who were cleaning up the disaster.

Most real news stories tell you what happened. Because of time constraints, the why is rarely reported until later if ever. You can find facts if you look for them. Whether you are seeing the true facts or not is sometimes a tossup.

Life is a risk. Some risks are greater than others. One day at a time.

The unopened letter in the Library. for WDC newsfeed:

Monday morning:

Jessica the Librarian says: {i" Jane. please open the mail. There is a pile of it on the desk. I have to catalog the new books. "

I opened the mail there is one unopened letter addressed specifically to Connie. I put it on her desk.

Jessica replies: "Connie won't be in until tomorrow morning."

Tuesday Morning:

As Jessica hangs up her coat she comments, "Connie left an email she won't be in today."

Jane slides her chair back and replies, "What about the unopened letter on her desk?"

Just leave it there until tomorrow.

Wednesday Morning:

Jessica hurries in with her hands full of books and mail. "Here Jane, open the mail. Connie won't be in for the next week. The library is closed until Saturday."

Jane opening the mail states, "We really need to get funding for another helper."

By Saturday the unopened letter for Connie still propped on her desk is forgotten in the rush to catch up on library chores and Connie has notified she will not be in for the next few days because of a family emergency...........
