Biblical Thoughts and questions from reading God's word. |
It seems like now days a lot of people have faith in faith, but faith itself is trust. If we do not trust what is true our Faith is in vain. Our faith is trust in Christ who dies and was raised. We know that he is the only way to the Father. This is why Satan always attacks the person of Christ denying his deity, or his character. This includes acknowledging the wickedness of sin, the completeness of forgiveness, the futility of our sacrifices, or the Lordship of Christ. Faith is upheld by the Holy Spirit as we are told people are blinded by the prince of this world (2 Cor 4:4). 2 Cor 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Romans 10:9 1 John 5:12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. |
Have you ever wondered why eastern Mysticism and evil is so entwined with such items as yoga, types of martial arts, certain dancing, and various health and clinical practices? Based on the verses below as well as others the intersection of the body, mind, self-control and worship is a unique place in our relationship with Christ. Romans 12:1-2 12Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will 2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. |
In Lord of the Rings when the Fellowship is outside Moria Gandalf tries many words as the password to the door and fails but when he steps back in frustration after a while he realizes the answer was on the door all the time. The inscripion which read "speak friend and enter" was not telling the friend to speak the password but that the password was friend. Such is the kingdom of God simple yet without the Spirit and the choosing of Christ we remain blind because of our own willfullness. Luke 10:23-23 21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. 22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” 23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” |
In the New Testament scripture is very clear on when Jesus is telling parables and not. Genesis is clear that Adam and Eve were literal people, backed by science of descent, but not modern thought. We see the creation of life on earth and in we see that the Church can be apostate. We also see plainly the evils of perversion and the Lordship, deity, and resurrection of Christ. Men can argue original text, but I find it fascinating that we, those who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit do not realize how much our world view and theology affect our knowledge of scriptures rather than the other way around. This is why I often joke that seminary ruins pastors. The learning, at least at many, is usually quite solid but the theology is built on tradition and tradition can keep us solid and or make us blind to the truth. 2 Timothy 3: 15-16 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, |
It looks like Israel is again not standing up for their rights and will not fully take back Gaza. They have this right not only as a nation which is justly subduing those who hate it but giving away land which is not theirs to give. Naturally there is and always will be extreme pressure not to stand up. This is just as true in our daily lives as Christians. It is so easy to compromise on what has been given to us by God. Our unalienable rights such as those of life, and liberty are also under attack. Do we defend them not because they are ours, but because they are given to us by God?We like the Israelites sin when we do not defend what has been given to us. This is not because it is ours, but because it is an inheritance from the Lord. |
Did you ever wonder where the idea of self-forgiveness comes from? This seems to me to be a very unbiblical idea. The only forgiveness that should matter to a Christian is the forgiveness of Christ. Once sin is truly repented of we have no business forgiving ourselves or accepting our own forgiveness; we walk under the blood of Christ. It is his blood only that can cleanse the conscience. Hebrews 9:14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! |
The verses below are fairly well known as Christians seek to keep their fire alive and are aware that the Holy Spirit is present in gatherings of his People. Based on these verses and this chapter I wonder do we fulfill our purpose in going to a church and does my church fulfill it's purpose for those who go to it? Hebrews 10 24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. |
