My son made me breakfast in bed today as a congratulations for making it through NaNoWriMo. Cold scrambled eggs and toast never tasted so good. I love it this boy more than words can express (can I say that on a writing site?
Congratulations on both NaNo and on having such a wonderful son! Well done!

Got called a libtard on Twitter for liking an article that suggests media is giving too much emphasis to Carson's background and not enough attention to his policy stance. Granted, it's not a lovefest for Carson, but I'd think the journalist would get some credit for trying to focus on issues rather than attacking Carson's integrity. Here is a link to the article if you are interested in calling me a libtard too!
At the risk of asking a libtarded question: if Carson's policies are so libtarded that you're a libtard to support him, why are his opponents so desperate to avoid scrutiny of them? 10 years ago, you were a libtard if you took a stand for gay rights. 100 years ago, you were a libtard if you opposed slavery. History proves the libtards were right.
My conversations with Daniel on the trip to school each morning are enlightening. Today we discussed the probability that black holes were cosmic recycling machines. According to Daniel there is a huge gravitational pull coming from black holes that sucks in space stuff and bangs it around, which breaks it down into the smallest elements ("like the Hadron Collider, Mommy") so it can be used again when it's shot out the other side. My little guy is a science fiction writer in training!
Glimmer Train Press - Short Story Contest for New Writers Open only to writers whose fiction has not appeared, nor is scheduled to appear, in a print publication with a circulation over 5,000. Reading Fee: $18 Length: 1,500 - 12,000 words Deadline: November 30th
Its a great publication by the way. I used to have a subscription. I enjoyed many of the stories but found some of them somewhat eclectic.
tYpO/T.Boilerman Very eclectic and literary. The stories are exceptional and linger in my mind. They are understated and powerful at the same time. I've submitted two, but they didn't like either one. None of my stories fit with what they publish. And I don't write the kind of stories they publish. More's the pity.
Here are a couple of contests that need more entries this month:
Now go write! |
If you want to write a novel, NaNoWriMo can help you get a jumpstart on a new one or further an idea that you've outlined, but never developed. Still, a month of intense writing can quickly become frustrating without a bit of preparation.

Did you see this contest?
It's quite a challenge and there are a million gift points up for grabs! |

There is a great character development posted by Robert Waltz It's that time of year again. The June Solstice (summer solstice for those of us living in the Better Hemisphere) occurs at 16:38 UTC on Sunday, June 21. North of the equator, it's the longest daylight of the year. North of the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn't set at all. So write a story or poem about what you do (or your character does) on this longest day. Write the story or poem as an item in your portfolio and link it in a post in the contest forum. Make sure to read the rules about posting word or line counts in your entry so you aren't disqualified. Deadline to enter is 6/20/15 at noon EST and the prize is 10,000 gift points.
