I got an email on this site titled "Dear Friend" that seems rather sus. I have no idea how to report the email, can anyone give me any advice? I can probably share or copy the email or something if anyone wants to see it, but I'd very much like to not receive weird emails like this. I don't know the email or the names provided or anything, and it resembles the spam I get in my regular email.

You can move these emails to the SPAM folder just like any other email program. I hope you do not get any more SPAM emails.
I received one of those, too, from China. I just hovered over it, I didn't open it.

Hi, I'm Jaycin. I'm a wannabe writer and I've had a WdC account for a couple months, but I haven't posted until now because I'm scared of accidentally breaking the rules or something. Also, people are intimidating, and there's quite a number of us on here. I've been trying to figure out how this site works since I signed up, but I don't have a lot of time to spend on here because I'm trying to look for work at the same time and I have other life things to take care of.
I do have two stories in progress, and I'd like to put them here but I'm not sure how to since they're still mostly drafts. I try to read into the Writing101 and such, but it just doesn't quite make sense to me, and I only have one screen most days, so it makes it hard to explore the site while reading about how to explore the site and use it properly.
My first book has been in progress since I was in the 7th grade. It's changed like 10 times at least. It started out, originally, with the main character having magic powers that get her and her friends into a lot of trouble (she kinda looks for the trouble too though), except I couldn't get it to go anywhere, so the story changed and that led into her being a teenager with powers she has to keep secret, and now she's getting hunted by the same mercenary assassin that killed her family member. Obviously, there's more to it, but maybe you have to read it to know the rest.
The second book is brand new. I barely have an idea of where the story is going. I know the main character is going to be a woman, probably a young adult, who's a hybrid being. She's a rare cross of a vampire, something magic based like a witch or fae, and werewolf, but she was abused so much by her parents that she doesn't have any of the normal attributes to any of her species, until she either escaped or is rescued. That one's still cooking, and I'll admit, it's 100% based on someone else's story. I loved that story so much I wanted to use parts of it, and I'm trying very hard to make it different enough to avoid copywrite and plagiarism while keeping it as interesting as I remember the original being. The world in this story is very supernatural based, meaning magic/spn beings are normal. Humans know about them, there's groups of hunters. The supes also have their own society separate from human society, but they still have to coexist.

Take it a step at a time. When I joined I used to wander around, see what people were doing, go to the 101 documentation to find out how they did that particular thing, then wander around some more. That way you're not trying to figure out everything at once.
Hi Jaycin! Welcome to WDC! Sounds to me like you’re not a “wannabe” *Smile* If you’re writing because you love to write–and you’ve said you’re working on two stories? I’d say you are a writer.

I understand feeling intimidated by people who’ve been on this website for a while. I felt that way when I first came to WDC, but I’ve found WDC members to be more friendly and helpful than any community I’ve ever been part of. If you haven’t already checked it out, there’s a forum where you can meet other “newbies” and be greeted and ask questions about how things work here:

Of course, I love hanging out here on the Community Newsfeed, but these are a few places you can drop in and lurk, if you’d like, to see how things work and hear what other people are doing and talking about. I hope you’ll find WDC to be a comfortable place for you to practice your writing and enjoy some of the resources and activities available here! Cheers!
