What a great inspiration children are for writing poems. If we wrote a poem for everything they did to make our hearts smile, we would be writing forever. MEG

One life passes and another steps forward.
What better way to honour the memory of a friend is there, than to name a child for him.
You seem to be collecting grandchildren as I do.
It is a wonderful hobby isn't it.
You can take them out and look at them and play with them and when you are finished for the day, give them back to their parents to give you time to recuperate in time for the next exciting visit.

After checking out your froggy frolics
I thought I'd look for more
Fun poems to be read to kids
And I found a dinosaur!
What fun it is to write poems for children and to see the pleasure on their faces when they read them.
I opened the door of your port and stepped in. Made for the poetry room and opened the drawer full of poems for littlies. I may stay here for a while, but I will put them all back tidily when I am finished, so that someone else can enjoy them.
DO NOT DISTURB for at least an hour anyway.
Cheers MEG

Review of Love in Blue

Too many species, particularly frogs are disappearing every day. We used to see them everywhere. On window sills,on the stairs, had to be careful where you walked! Even more regularly in the toilet bowl. It is arare delight now to spot a tree frog so close to home. A blue tree frog? now that would be something special to see!

Simple little poems like this appeal to the little child in me.
Love the use of colour too. Must learn to do that one day when I have cleared a bit of space on the floor of my brain room. MEG

Good old Australian back yard,eh? Plenty of room and lots to do.No need for expensive toys, you made your own fun.Just wait till you have kids though and see how you feel about them swinging on the old Hills Hoist.Do you know how much those things cost?I am presuming that's why you were going back to it to have fun in the last stanza,. Mothers know these things!
Just one suggestion BOOM:- 7th stanza, try
"We were beneath it, hiding."
Well done, Keep on writing. MEG

Review of MORE FROGS

Sig from Kiya for reviewing
Thank you BOOM for being so impressed by my "FROGS" taht it inspired you to write this poem.
It is amazing how a sound, long forgotten, can rekindle so many memories.
The second stanza is quite significant, particularly the last line. There are many things our children and grandchildren will not have the pleasure of seeing because of our neglect in caring for our planet.
A fun poem with a timely message for all.
Well done MEG.

Very good account of the incident,Khalish.
I agree with your sentiments in the last stanza. However, people everywhere, I believe, are endeavouring to be as politically correct as they possibly can.Allowing the message on the t-shirt to go unnoticed may have seemed to presume that the airline endorsed the comment. This in turn, takes away the freedom of speech and opinion from the individual.
It is a fine line, this political correctness, and it is difficult to ascertain at times what is correct and what is not.
One point I would like to make "QANTAS" has no "U".
It is an acronym of "Queensland And Northern Territory Airline Service".
Well done MEG

What a beautiful piece of heartfelt writing this is.
Brought a tear to my eye.
It is all so tender and loving, but I think I was most touched by:-
We knew from the start we loved each other,
Even when we didn't ,we did.
I think a lot of couples can relate to that feeling.
Absolutely great!
Congratulations to you and Shirley.

Hi BOOM,

Very good description of what you can see from your window,I could picture myself sitting there.
Just 2 things I noted:- "i" in the 2nd line needs to be capitalised and may I suggest a comma after "up" in the last line.
Well done and Keep writing. Look forward to reading more of your work.

Review of Music

Hi Nikki, Music obviously gives you a lot of pleasure,
and so it should, that is why people write it. For their own satisfaction and the listeners'.
Suggestions only, that I feel would help this piece:-
"Making your self esteem elevated",
Try "Elevating your self esteem"
Also:- "When things have fallen to pieces" and the last line:- "and have an effect on others".
Welcome to WDC, sharing poetry and ideas with the people on this site is a marvellous experience, enjoy it. If you would like to read a couple of pieces on music Have a look at these.

Review of Marriage
Review by Meg
Rated: E | (3.0)

Wow! Jessicalynn,
I read your article and decided not to review.
Then I came back and thought, gee, everyone is entitled to their opinion even if it differs from mine. I am of the old school. Met a boy at 16. Married him at 18. Had 6 children ,and lived happily ever after until he passed away 3 years ago. We were married for 42 years. Sheer determination, and belief in the sanctity of marriage is what is lacking in today's society, and the fact that laws have changed to the extent that if a marriage falls on hard times it has been made far too easy to have it annulled or dissolved or whatever. Young people are not given the incentive to "work it out". If couples were given a short term option on marriage, fair enough, but as soon as children are involved the situation changes. Parents split and go on to make new and happier relationships, and where does that leave the kids?Sure, they are going to follow the example set by their parents. And the true meaning of marriage becomes even less important.
As I said at the beginning everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and full marks to you for expressing yours so freely and openly.
By the way, welcome to WDC.You will make lots of friends here to swap ideas with. They really are a great group to be with.
Cheers MEG

Review of Time Stood Still

One of those times in history where you will forever remember where you were at the time.I know I do.
Also a time when the world became united for a while.
Tragedies tend to do that, but then time passes and complacency takes over, and the rest of the world tends to slip back into their previous mode.
Sad, but it does happen. And sad, because this day should never be forgotten. Families affected personally won't forget, The American population family won't forget, so why should we, the rest of the world, ever forget? After all, we are just one big family, Aren't we?

Don't know what to say, Nancy. This is absolutely brilliant.
The feeling in this poem is beyond belief. A masterpiece as far as I am concerned. A real tear jerker.
Your natural talent for vivid description leaves nothing to the imagination of the readers. It is all there right before us.
Very well written. MEG

Review of Under The Sink

These poems of yours are all so entertaining and easy to read with their flowing rhythm and rhyme.
They are just a child's dream of poetry.
One can see you have had children using every ploy and excuse for every situation. That's why they did it! They were helping you with topics for your poems.
And you punished them for not cleaning up their room. SHAME ON YOU. It was the monster under the sink! MEG.

Oh the greenies will be out after you. The ASPCA may have a thing to say about smashing a poor dumb animal with your shoe too. Me? You would have heard me screaming all the way from Australia.
I can't go into my garden shed to find an old flat basketball I know I didn't throw away, because there is a spider in there as big as a plate!
Great entertainment in this piece. MEG

What a terrific poem. Now I don't feel at all guilty about hoarding all the "useless stuff" I have. There will be a use for it one day.
This poem rolls along so easily, reminiscent of a Dr. Suess rhyme.
My pick of the best use for the basketball was under Uncle Fred's rocker.
Good one Nancy.

Not only a vivid description of the four seasons, but a lesson in what is a quatrain, rubai and a rubaiyat.
When I read the aaba rhyming sequence, I thought it may have sounded odd, but it sounds pretty natural and flowing. Thanks for this lesson, Nancy. Much appreciated. MEG

What an eyeful of exciting things to see on the way to the ocean!. If I was that way inclined, I could walk to the ocean from my place. Much easier to drive. The sea is a beatiful tropical blue with palm trees lining the white sandy beach.Seagulls scrambling about trying to be first in line to be thrown a scrap left over from a picnic lunch by the sea. BIG problem:- We can't swim in the ocean here. It looks so inviting, but under the surface lurk sharks and deadly stinging jelly fish The deadliest no bigger than your thumbnail (irakundji)I think I've spelled that right.
Great descriptive poem, I could have been in the car with you. MEG

Yes indeed. What to do with Grandma?
So far I have no problem in that dept.I spend a lot of time visiting my family, overnight to the ones in town, and a couple of weeks at a time with those who live interstate.I am off again in March and April to do the rounds down south and be back here in the tropics before it gets too cold for me down there. Grandkids are always at me to tell them of the "black and white days". MEG

Funny to hear people from other countries having to go to a zoo to see kangaroos. They are actually in plague proportions here.Drive 5 minutes from my home and you have to dodge them on the roads. Make a mess of your car if you hit one, but they just STAND THERE! Won't move! Not much room in a pouch, though. Roos have one 1year old "joey" "on the hop", one in the pouch learning to jump in and out ready for facing the outside world, and another about an inch long attached to a nipple inside the pouch feeding and growing and one getting ready to be born and crawl blindly guided by smell and instinct up to the pouch just in time for everyone to move on to the next stage. It is a continuouos cycle, But I believe they can put everything on hold if the food supply is short during droughts.
Whew! lesson for today over. MEG
