You make some good points. My step-grandson is on the autistic spectrum. My daughter is with his father, but neither of them seemed to understand his needs. He is an adult. He has learned ways to cope with the world. One of his needs is time alone in his room. They failed to understand this, the lad having grown up mainly with his mother.

We need to look at the world through the eyes of the autistic person to understand them. Annoying as they may be, the need to know you love them.

I'm not going to get into the pros and cons of the pandemic. But I have been a single parent. In the UK in the 1970s I made the choice to stay at home with my child and live on benefits. I could have worked and paid a large proportion of my wages on childcare. I would almost certainly have been worse off.

However, things change, benefits decrease in real terms. Single parents are now being forced to seek work once their children reach school age. That's okay until your child is ill and you get no sick pay.

If you can balance home working with home schooling I would go down that route.

There is a lesson here. There is no such thing as a tame cat. They are all lions or tigers in tiny bodies. What Vashti did is follow her nature when she felt threatened. Threat gone, she goes back to her domesticated behaviour. For now.

This is a good warning for other cat owners. Not that you actually own a cat; they own you.

Not so much a fright for the youngsters but a definite warning for us oldies. An old English saying - cast not a clout 'fore May is out - comes to mind here. George Winkler didn't believe in the Gypsy curse, but I don't think that is what caused his demise. Hyperthermia causes the victim to feel hot toward the end.

And what's wrong with being a garbage(wo)man? If you are fit and strong, then why not? There is good money to be made from cleaning up others waste. Where I live they get better paid than a lot of professional jobs. There is actually a waiting list for the job.

A well written tale of a young woman's torment. Beth, and the way her mind works (or doesn't) seems very real. I can't help but think the writer has some experience of mental issues, either professional or personal. Hopefully, nothing as traumatic as this story.

Weird. I think I can understand the altered state of mind brought on by anesthic. But to not know you are pregnant right up to the birth is pretty unusual. The last line about the parents suggests this might be someone quite young. That might explain it.

I am going to be careful of blinking boys, don't know where I might end up. Your descriptions are very vivid. I particularly liked the sunset like an egg breaking. Did father and son end up on that grassy hillside?

I don't need to look for problems with spelling or grammar. You know your craft.

I can sympathise with you over the log in thing. I purchased a coffee machine from a mail order business. It arrived, no problem. Then I tried to pay my first instalment. It seems I have disappeared, no longer exist, have an imaginary e-mail address, do not live in the house I've lived in for twenty plus years ...

So I failed to pay. They found my e-mail and home address when it came to demanding that missing payment.

I can certainly empathise with this story. My life has improved slightly in the last couple of years, but, like me, you are probably thinking what next?

Helping people doesn't always mean karma is on your side. I donate to food banks, payback for the times I have needed their help.

I have only experienced one full eclipse in my lifetime. I knew it was coming, I understood what it was all about, but it still felt scary. For early civilizations, ignorant of the science, it would have been terrifying.

This is written as though you experienced it for yourself. I don't think anyone on WDC is that old, though some of us have been around awhile.

Although I am familiar with the song, can't say I'm really familiar with the lyrics. How many people do actually listen to the words while they are bopping away to the tune?

The misquoting is interesting. Over the years many well known songs have been misheard and the lyrics changed by popular usage.

I don't read much fantasy but I can tell a good story from a bad one. This has all the elements of a good adventure. You have established the norm for your protagonist. Then came the call to action. Who will leave with Barud? What will be the fate of those who stay?

I do hope you will make this into a novel, maybe for Nano.

Where can I find this man? Would he consider renovating a bungalow? (I can't manage stairs). I wonder, though, if this computer geek knows more about her than she realises.

You build a very good picture of this part-renovated home, not to mention the disabled cats. I wish this couple well.

I get the feeling your Grandfather would be happier shooting with a camera. I spotted a few places where a comma or dash would be more appropriate. I would love to see wildlife like that. The only thing I have seen is a fox. It injured my dog. I think she was protecting young.

What you have here is an outline for a story. You have 1000 words you can use. Show their first meeting. Use dialogue. Maybe bring in another character who tells Big Daddy who Miss Lee is. Then show his decision making and the final 'Dear Jane' letter being written.

This is more than just another blog entry. Although based around your own religion, it makes points which should resound with people of all faiths. It is good to see quotes used, and links to other sites.

You might want to read through. I spotted a few typos.

I like the idea of these cat-like creatures breeding humans in captivity. Any cat owner will tell you, they own you not the other way around.

I can see a time when something is done about overpopulation. I just pray that it will not be taken too far.

I am 67 and have never been a sports person. A couple of years ago there was an event in town. Someone had set up a basket ball hoop, somewhat small than pro level, meant for little kids. Get a hoop, win a chocolate bar. I have never played basket ball, but I am a chocoholic. First ball, in the hoop. Yummee chocolate in my tummy. You're never too old to have a go.

Haven't we all had that conversation with our other half at least once. In my case, the conversation was with the police. They didn't take me seriously either. Hey, my dog doesn't make a habit of growling at the front door in the middle of the night.

I had better make this a nice review. I don't want you to put a hex on me. I'm having enough bad luck already. Why do some people act so violently? Unfortunately it is not so easy to get rid of the local troublemakers. Karma will catch up with them eventually.

I feel for Kirstin, but as she realised, she would still see her father. This story is teaching the children of divorce to learn to live with their altered circumstances. You handled the issue sensitively.

Just those snippets of conversation overheard have changed Kirstin's attitude. Hopefully she realised that it was not all about her.

This is a very detailed profile. I do hope he has appeared in a novel. I would like to read it. You have obviously put a lot of thought into this character and got to know him well. If your other characters are as well thought out, you should create a successful tale.

I know little of the science of black holes. I doubt anyone really does. In a way this story makes sense. Anything could happen when we delve into the void. Maybe there is another universe on the other side.

Your description of the journey is credible. You show the confusion, both of sentient being and of technology.

I take it that 'Gas, gin and genies' were your prompt words. I'm glad you put in the line “Anyone have a dictionary?” because I was thinking the same when I read the victim's words.

You managed to show the scene in just 239 words. It would be interesting to see what you could have made of this without the word limit.
