People have always had a serious streak in the Middle East.

The Good Word

                                          Barra de Navidad, Mexico. December 22, 2006.


Book after book of Holy Writ,
Contained in the KJV,
Portrays the clash of sect with sect
Through sacred history.

The lexicon of Scripture holds,
In the Concordance file,
Twelve thousand, eight hundred and fifty-two words --
Not one of which is "smile".

So I'm glad I don't live at the other end
Of the Mediterranean Sea;
Too much religion and too much blood
Can spoil a place for me.
