Anger

Rage pours through my mind in a surge of fiery crimson
Burning away reason
Burning away kindness
Understanding, empathy, patience
Leave me like unwilling witnesses to a beat-down
I am a person born anew
Rising from the ashes like a phoenix
From the calm reasonable person I was
Replaced now by my own Mr. Hyde
Lashing out at family, friends
Hurting those I love
I am a beast uncontrolled
Set free from its Pandora’s box
I am left wondering if I will ever close the lid again
Soon the red tide ebbs
And I am left to clear away the detritus that remains behind
To make way for flowers and greenery to bloom again
