Together yet so far apart

A redefinition of together

Why is it so hard
To say I’m sorry
And so easy
To say goodbye?
Life should be much easier
Makes one want to cry!

Sparing each other’s feelings
Left too much unsaid
We made our plans separately
Living inside our heads
Forgetting that it
Takes two to make a pair
And pulling together
To get anywhere
Down the road

I do not want to exist
In the same house
In different worlds!
Going separate ways
Only takes us farther apart.
Do you marvel at
The distance between us
Across The abyss At Night?

The longest distance
I can imagine
Is from one side
Of our bed to the other.
What happened to
Pillow talk?
Or dreaming together
Fingertips touching fingertips;
Anchoring us
Together
In the same place
And time!
