This morning while I sat reading
the newspaper at the kitchen table
which looks out into our back yard,
I glanced up at that perfect moment
to catch a large drop of dew hanging
at the tip of a leaf on the angel trumpet
plant in the flower bed near the house.
What caught my eye was a unique sight.
Early morning sunlight struck the dewdrop
creating at the leaf’s tip a sparkling jewel
that twinkled with a bright blue color.
Small movement of my head turned
this spontaneous jewel brilliant green.
The colors were truly extraordinary.
A scientist would explain what I saw
in terms of light diffraction, I’m sure.
However, I prefer my sweet wife’s
explanation; she said what I had seen
was an angel’s tear.
