should I begin to think I'm it
shown some rare skill in what I've writ
someone special and quite the hit

just please remind me that I'm wrong
make clear that point, don't play along
then put me right, it won't take long
should I persist, you must not quit

tell me straight that my head has swelled
that illusion must be dispelled
the false impression clean expelled
for to the truth I must submit

though yes, I have a certain skill
please scream out loud and very shrill
my plain conceit, it makes you ill
and no-one likes a clever git

Zéjel is a romantic Spanish form with Arabic influence related to the Qasida and adopted by the Spanish troubadours of 15th century. The Zéjel is distinguished by linking rhyme established in the opening mudanza (strophe in which the theme is established in a mono-rhymed triplet).

The elements of the simplest and most common form of the Zéjel are:

          syllabic, most often written in 8 syllable lines.
          stanzaic, opening with a mono-rhymed triplet followed by any number of quatrains.
          rhymed, the rhyme of the opening mudanza establishes a linking rhyme with the end line of the succeeding quatrains. Rhyme scheme, aaa bbba ddda etc.
