I was going to write about a song and feeling
But then I turned on CNN and reality turned on me.
I learned what a Putin critic who survived two poisonings
says about the Russian president.

I was going to write about love and flowers
Then I turned on CNN and the newest reality
of Russia’s reliance on heavy weaponry
And the McDonald's in Moscow is packing up.

I was going to play and sing along
But I turned on CNN’s news and my radio fell silent.
Slowly the brain drain began and I think
'This is what you get when thinking about a song.
