I guess I've always been a philomath, though I only recently learned the term. My passions include English Literature, Psychology, and Religion. Despite many misadventures over my 57 years, I've gained invaluable lessons from them.
Interestingly, I hated school yet consistently earned high grades. When I started college in my 30s, I graduated with honors.
One memorable college experience involved an English professor who assigned an essay with the warning that no one would score above a "D" on the first draft. Confident, I expected at least a "C," but I was shocked to receive an "F." Distraught, I visited his office, where he reminded me of his original warning and assured me that following his guidance could earn an "A." Ultimately, I did, and I credit him as a mentor in my writing journey.
With my children grown, each a philomath in their own right, I now have time to explore new interests. I'm learning to live more in tune with nature, researching religious history, and delving into the complexities of U.S. history and politics—a challenging but rewarding pursuit.
