Born Again? What Does That Mean?
"3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
" (John 3:3-8, KJV)

"3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.
” (John 3:3-8, NKJV)

"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3b, KJV)

"That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (John 3:6, KJV)

How many people do you know, who birthed themselves into this world, physically? None, right?

Birth requires, that we are being acted upon by someone else to become an entirely separate human being, living in this world.

Spiritual Birth requires, that we are being acted upon by Someone Perfect to become an entirely new human being in Christ.

If someone asks the question as Nicodemus did, "What do I need to do to be saved?" could it be, that this is a misplaced perspective? In order to ask the question, there is reason to believe, that you already are. Lost people have no affection, nor desire for God. Born-again people do.

Dr. R. C. Sproul expressed this well.

Do you see a desire to be right with The Lord? Thank The Lord for the Gift of that desire. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
