#16 - 1980's Sounds - Icehouse It was 1987 and there was a new guy to the platoon. He brought new music - Icehouse. I had never heard of Icehouse, but I loved their album, "Man of Colours." This was the perfect album to sit back, chill, and just have a drink. There were a lot of great songs on the album: Electric Blue, Crazy, My Obsession, Nothing too Serious, but my favorite was one called "The Kingdom." Back then I didn't pay attention to the lyrics, so much, but I loved the music - driving yet consistent, the singer's voice, determined. The chorus stuck with me, "I know a place where I keep the best of things..." I listened to Icehouse when I was running back then, because it had the beat that kept me engaged. (and I hate running). Years later, in the early 2010's, I would play Icehouse in the car with Andy in the car (as a pre-teen) and he came to enjoy the music, as well. That's when I learned that Icehouse was from Australia. I really should pay attention sometimes. Those Aussies sneak up on me! Icehouse got me through some times invigorating me with a determination that's carried down throughout the years. KINGDOM Icehouse |
