 Christmas Movie Quiz  (E)
test your knowledge of Christmas films!
#1363802 by spidey

I hope to add lots more questions, but in the meantime, try it out and let me know what you think! *Wink*

And a question: What are your favorite winter holiday movies?

Well, it looks like the Nor'easter missed us here. We didn't get the 6+ inches of snow it seems like everyone else got.

Instead we got a few inches of sleet (followed by flurries), and now we have very high winds. I read that they're 20-30 mph with gusts of 40 mph!

We have these flourescent lights in our ceilings, and when it's really windy, they get lifted up a tiny bit, and then they slam down! It's quite noisy when you're trying to sleep... Mr. J put some weights on them, so hopefully they stay down tonight while I'm trying to sleep.

Whatever your recent weather has been, be safe! *Smile*

Today is the three year anniversary of my Mom's kidney transplant! (see "Spidey prays for her Mom)

I happened to come across a great item today:

The Emotional Impact of Diabetes  (E)
Diabetes can mean life or death, both physical and emotional.

Anyone who is affected by diabetes, or who wants to learn more about it, should read that item.

It's a simple question, but it's not so easy to answer. Becoming an organ donor is a complex and personal decision.

Please read "Invalid Item

Then answer this question: Are you an organ donor?

The first choice is a simple, Yes, I am an organ donor.

The other answers are reasons you may not be one. I'm very interested in individual reasons. I will NOT judge anyone for their reason. (In fact, I won't know your vote unless you specifically tell me, so feel free to be perfectly honest!)

If your answer isn't here, please email me.

Yes, I'm a registered organ donor.
I fear for my safety if I'm ever hospitalized.
I don't think recipients deserve another chance.
      Religious reasons.
      I wouldn't be eligible anyway.
      Other reason - please email
      I'm undecided.

I have to admit something... I bought myself a Christmas present yesterday.

*Bigsmile*

I've been wanting a Writing.com t-shirt for so long! And now that you can use gps to pay for Shop stuff, I just couldn't resist any longer!

If I get the shirt before Christmas, does that mean I have to wrap it and wait until Christmas morning to open it?

Okay, and seriously now, no more procrastinating! I have to work on the magazine today!

(Alright, just one more distraction)
Today's Classic Dave Barry:

The Christmas tree is a cherished holiday tradition that dates back five hundred years, to the early Germans. What happened was, one night right around Christmas, a bunch of early Germans were sitting around, and one of them, named Helmut, said: "I know! Let's chop down a perfectly good fir tree, drag it inside, and see if we can get it to stand up again." "Why in the world would we do THAT?" asked the other early Germans, who also happened to speak English. "It's a cherished holiday tradition!" replied Helmut. This made sense to the other Germans, because they had just invented beer.

I'm in the middle of reading and reviewing a good fantasy item:
Of Shrieking Woods, Satyrs and Magic  (13+)
A young mage senses something evil and strange is afoot in a once peaceful Forest.
#1348861 by Humble G

It's two chapters, nearly 30k, but it reads fairly quickly. I have a hard time with fantasies sometimes, but I really like this one so far. The opening scene with the main character sitting by a stream drinking tea is so descriptive that I had to make myself a cup of tea.

I noticed on the back of my English Breakfast teabag container thingy (*Laugh*) it says this:

THE TWININGS STORY

In 1706 Thomas Twining started selling
fine tea in England. Today, Twinings still
sells some of the world's best teas
from the original store in the Strand,
London, and in more than 100 countries
throughout the world.

I read the heading again, "The Twinings Story," and thought, "That was a story?"

A long time ago, a guy started selling tea, and his company still sells it.

What a story, huh?

Yeah, I haven't blogged in a bit. Oops!

I offer a gift:

This is the song, "I Can't Make You Love Me," by Atlanta band, City Sleeps. They're on tour in Europe with Funeral for a Friend at the moment. If you like the song, visit https://www.myspace.com/citysleeps and consider buying their album. It's $5 right now!

I've been so busy lately, and I also need to start working more on the next few issues. I'm proud of us getting this month's issue out on time, and I want to keep that up as much as possible!

I didn't get that job I interviewed for, by the way. Oh well. I'm sure I'll find something else one of these days... *Smile*

Happy St. Nicholas Day!

I had a lot of fun giving gifts to Elisa: Middle Aged Stik today as part of the St. Nicholas celebration of "Invalid Item

And I've had fun being spoiled by gifts of my own from Laart1-Season of the Heart . Just look at that shiny new awardicon up there on this blog! *Bigsmile*

I know there are stealthy ninjas everywhere on the site today (thanks to "Invalid Item), but I just can't choose a side when it comes to the pirate vs. ninja debate. I like 'em both! *Smile*

Happy St. Nicholas Day and Happy Day of the Ninja to one and all!
