Wonderful sentiments! Contrary to common belief, end-rhyming is not necessary in poetry. Rhyming is merely one of the many tools available to generate the lyrical quality for which poetry is noted. Repetition, alliteration, assonance, and internal or front-end rhymes can also be used, as demonstrated in the following link: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/learning/article/177217 . To break that habit, try composing poems in non-rhyming forms, such as "Form of the week: Tritina" , or one of the syllabic forms: Tanka ( http://www.edu.pe.ca/stjean/playing%20with%20poetry/Hennessey/how_to_write_a_tan... ), Etheree ( "Invalid Item" ) or Epulaeryu ( "DONUT" ). Let the creativity flow from your soul! Dave "The Poet's Place " |
