summer ending

the summer is ending
here in Korea
my adopted second home

they say
the weather has gotten hotter
and wilder

and that is true
the summers used to be
as tropical as DC
now they are more like the amazon
high humidity heavy rains
deadly political storms
everywhere on TV

as the summer seems endless
the politicians scheming forever
and people dying of the heat
due to global climate change
running amuck
across the globe

at last a glimmer
of colder weather
emerges on the side lines
of the ending gasp
of the dying summer’s grip
on the Korean peninsula

can the cooling winter
be here soon enough
