Hi Dave, I love that you were able to share a new poem in your own forum. A very appropriate subject for the season and written in 10 syllable lines, actually iambic pentameter. Your unique rhyme choices make the rhyme almost invisible, giving a great sound to your piece while allowing the content to dominate. I think my favorite line is: "where books become like vital oxygen". I love books, the weight and shape and feel of a book speaks to me even before I open it. True I read a lot from my nook and kindle apps. They allow me to have my current book with me at all times, even on my phone. And if I can't sleep I can read my book without turning on a light and disturbing my sleeping husband. But I still love to read a real book. I am struck by the fact that students now have many of their textbooks online and no longer have to heft volumes around but can simply go on their phones, iPads or laptops to read. No more forgetting a book in your locker. Well almost. The kids are back in school and once again I have a student living with me. I'm hoping the renewed enthusiasm for turning in assignments and paying attention to the subject matter continues beyond this initial period. Bloom where you are planted. GE courses may not be where you want to focus but they can open doors in the mind and what is learned can be built upon to reinforce and enhance that which you are interested in. That is my schpeel, I hope she listens. Welcome back Dave. It's all yours from here. ~~Tink |
