Yes, the assignment was inspired by the Terza Rima, but omits the requirement for lines of the same length and a conclusion in a rhyming couplet: https://poets.org/glossary/terza-rima http://www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/wip/terzarima.html http://www.writing.upenn.edu/~afilreis/88v/terza.html I added the enveloping feature of linking the second line of the last stanza back to the first and third lines of the first stanza, based on some vague recollection of the Interlocking Rubaiyat, for which I can no longer find supporting sources. As noted in the writing.upenn.edu link, the pattern produces "the effect of two steps forward and one step back," which would match your "riposte" suggestion, so I do believe "Terza Riposte" would work just fine. As an alternative: the two lines followed by a longer one make me think of steps on a garden path, while the interlocking rhyme scheme always evokes the concept of weaving a thread through the composition. With that in mind, I offer "Garden Lace." Let the creativity flow from your soul! Dave "The Poet's Place " |
