It depends on what I'm writing. Poetry seems to come out by itself sometimes, and I almost never seriously edit poems after publishing. Stories are finicky... Sometimes they feel forced and annoying, and I have to let them sit and then come back to rework them. Other times they flow out almost perfectly first time around. Both energy and exhaustion are part of the craft. I live a life of many dualities.
