I like Halloween the best. Well I have to admit it was more fun when Trick or Treat was door to door. Still I like the dark side of that holiday too. I dislike what Christmas has become. If it was still more yule log, figgy pudding and parlor games I wouldn't have a problem. It's the whole fat, materialistic, red suited man, demented, creepy elf that sits on various items of furniture and feeling like a toy store dropped in the living room. That's what I hate. Every year my niece with a developmental disorder insists on leaving carrots for Santa's Reindeer. My sister and brother in law are both "allergic" to carrots. Pop-pop doesn't have the teeth for it. So I have to make the raw carrots disappear and leave one with bite marks. It sounds cute.(and it kinda is) But I broke a tooth on a carrot last year.(there wasn't anything left but pulp and roots after that carrot fought back.) Still as much as I want to set Elf on a Shelf on fire, I still like some parts of Christmas. Like the Nativity play, reading Luke 2 and the carols. Unfortunately, my sister and her family are atheist. And my niece being permanently mentally three years old, there is a snowball's chance in an oven that the traditions I like will ever see the light of day. |
