It varies. Usually I remember them pretty well upon waking, but after an hour or so it's just a couple of fragments and a feeling. On rare occasions, one of them will stick around. As you noted, the one that sticks is often (but not always) the one involving really bad things like nuclear armageddon, getting chased by rabid zombie turtle-wasps, or being back at work. That last one is, of course, the worst nightmare.
