True, but some of us grew up in a time when media was free, or at least it seemed to be. It came over the air, no subscriptions, and you could watch anything your antenna would bring in (sometimes a bit more during solar flares or if you could get your younger brother to stand on a chair holding the rabbit ears). The price was watching a few commercials. That's not so bad considering that most streaming services charge a fee and make you watch ads, too. Plus, you're paying for an internet connection. Public funding for specific media outlets means that government picks winners and losers, and that's not democracy. However, there are programs that fund internet access in rural areas or subsidize internet access for those with low-income. I say make access to the market available to everyone, then let the market determine which media outlets prosper.
