Ever get into trouble for something you didn't do? If so, what was it? Early on at Motorola (probably my first year there), I spent a morning in a classroom doing hands-on activities on Mobile & Portable radios. Back then, we didn't have classroom keys, we had to have them unlocked for us. I took a break for lunch, but when I came back, my classroom was locked! You must know that every classroom had an opening (4' x 4') so the cafeteria employees could leave morning pastries & afternoon snacks without disturbing the class as we taught the subject matter. So there were two openings, one on the backside, one on the classroom side. Since the room I was using was now locked for some reason, I decided to crawl through that opening. This was against policy though! Imagine my surprise when I found the management team in the room holding a meeting! Yeah, I didn't make any management friends that day. I explained that it wasn't my fault, that I'd been in the classroom all morning doing hands-on activities. I was still blamed, but after that small incident, we were finally given classroom keys, which we should have had in the first place. And interpersonal communication improved a bit. ![]() ![]() Jim Dorrell |
