Practicing Volleyball daily, for at least 10 hours a day, just to get past the try-outs for the team. There were other girls that were almost as tall as her, and only 1 taller, and she was barely an inch taller. Zeinab thought this would give her a great advantage, but the other girls were just as determined and as good as she was. Even the girls around 6 feet tall were putting up just as much of a fight.
Zeinab tried and struggled to come out on top, but was just lost in the crowd of volleyball players. She knew she was at the peak of her performance, and if she missed the Olympics this year, it would be another 4 before she would be able to try again. She would have to work at a normal job, her parents would probably continue to pressure her to get married (her parents were very traditional and conservative. Being from overseas, They didn't care she was playing volleyball, but took it really badly that her uniform involved shorts). Honestly, Zeinab only did what she needed to just barely get away with what she wanted to do. There was constant fighting, but her parents, who stood at 5'5" (her dad) and 5'0" (her mom) even felt intimidated by her huge stature.
She was the oldest child in her family. She had 3 sisters, each of which seemed to be following in her growth pattern. Her 17 year old sister was 6'3", her 15 year old sister was 5'9", and her 13 year old sister, who seemed to be beating all of them, was already 6'1". Her sisters didn't try to rebel as much as Zeinab did, but still had their problems. Everyone wondered why the children were ending up so tall from such small parents. Zeinab assumed it was because they grew up in a poor, rural area, they didn't have the proper nutrition to reach their full potential of height.
Zeinab stood there, watching the other girls play, thinking about how this could be her only shot. She didn't want her parents to kick her out and cut her off. She loved them, but she loved volleyball. She wanted to be the best. Her skill and training only got her this far.
