My name is carl and I'm a pretty average person. I'm in my mid 20s, just finished with college and working a bit of a dead end job. I don't have a lot of money because its hard to live as a millenial in today's economy. Even though I often get OT at work I find myself spending a lot.
It probably has to do with my friend Kristi. I don't thinks he actually works but she actually likes to hang out with me. I'm a bit of a loner and an introvert by nature but Kristi helps bring me out my shell. I end up paying twice as much though since I have to pay her way too. Sometimes she wants to do things on her own and she found it easier if I just gave her money every week... not always sure where it goes but when its time for us to do friend stuff together she doesn't have it so, uh yeah I don't have a lot of assets despite sometimes working 60 hour work weeks.
But Kristi is worth it. She's my only friend and I cherish her a lot. And tonight was going to be good since she had convinced me to go to a concert. I didn't normally like being around a lot of people but she was insistent. I was always afraid to gainsay her as I didn't want to risk the only friend that I had.
She dropped me off at the front and told me to lineup and get the tickets and that she would meet up with me in about an hour. The line was really long and it didn't make sense for both of us to stand in it. I agreed and pocketed the ticket vouchers from the e-mail and made ready to wait for awhile.
The concert location was interesting. The building was actually an outdoor stadium with large bleacher seats all the way to the top, only in recent years they had constructed a big dome so even if the weather was bad outside they could still have the show go on. The way the line snaked through the stadium I could actually see the people on the bleachers basically directly above me. A lot of people were already seated.
Bored I looked up and saw a strange sight. Someone was wearing a pair of LARGE gold sneakers. I had never seen sneakers that color before, not only that but they were huge! The owner definitely had bigger feet than I did. The line had slowed to a crawl so I had plenty of time to look at them. For some reason I was drawn to those LARGE gold sneakers, their mass had so much rubber to them, it was just strange.
Eventually though I got bored and started playing on my phone. That was when I heard a strange sound from above. It was a gurgling noise. I couldn't quite place it over the buzz of the crowd but it was loud and near. I looked up and saw those LARGE gold sneakers tapping the ground impatiently. Surely the noise wasn't coming from the owner of those shoes? With the size of the crowd there was no good way to get off of those bleachers with everyone trying to find their seats.
I felt an odd sense of disquiet fill me. Like when you enter a dark room and you aren't sure if someone is inside. I shake it off as best I can until I hear the gurgling, even louder now. I'm really starting to get nervous... and then it happens. A lout BRRRAFFFFBBBBTTTT echos above me and a greenish cloud of hot gas descends down on me and the other people in the crowd.
I gag intensely, the smell of rotten eggs burning my nostrils. I cough and choke and I see the other people around me do the same. Did this person fart? Oh god the stench. I cover my nose as best I can while I wait for the cloud of noxious fumes to dissipate. I tried to be understanding, after all if someone has a stomach issue it wasn't their fault. The people around me weren't as happy though and several complained loudly.
Slowly but surely the gas dispersed and it became somewhat possible to breathe in clean air. That didn't last for long though. The gurgling grew louder and another massive eruption of flatulence could be heard. This time green and brown gas mingled down and the scent was like death itself. Rotten meat and decay made the person behind me gag and run to the nearest trashcan to puke their guts out. I felt sick to my own stomach but did my best to quiet it down.
The people around me were furious and many of the people behind me left the line all together. The people in front didn't get it as bad but they crowded forward, but the damn line hadn't moved more than a foot. I was really not feeling well but I couldn't leave the line. Kristi would be so disappointed in me if I failed to get the tickets.
But the smell... I knew it wasn't their fault but the gurgling kept going and the LARGE gold sneakers kept fidgeting above me. I had a horrible feeling that this was only going to get worse!
