"Hold still, honey." Your father gets back in the pod, and initiates another change, placing your two parents back in their proper bodies. Your dad groans and leans over the terminal, going through the readings. You mom comes up behind, and wraps her arms around him.
"You're not curious about what it's like to be me, dear?"
Your dad forces himself out of her hold, "No, I'm not, Kim. The unified body and spirit is what makes every person unique. When you start playing around with minds and bodies like this," he pauses, and wipes his brow, "Identity is thrown to the wind. Our sense of self is disturbed. It becomes unclear who we are. Our identities are not playthings. I'd hate to come home one night and wonder if my wife really is my wife."
"Mark, you're not telling me something."
"I'll be back soon. Please," Dad hugs your mom tightly and kisses her one last time, "Please. Keep an eye on this thing until I get back. Don't use it. Don't let the kids use it. Keep an eye on the kids, too. Let me know if you think they might have already used it. I'll be back as soon as possible."
