I'd Rather Miss You

An ending long overdue

It's been a crazy couple of years
the very definition of insanity
do the same thing over and over
and expect a different outcome each time

I'm finally done trying
I told you at the beginning
that when I was done I would be done
that time is now

I have no regrets
very few get the chance that we had
my first love, at age 16
returns to me 40+ years later

We share the blame
neither more guilty
both are too damaged
to live a non-toxic union
