Let's face it, it would be hard to think of a profession that hasn't been mentioned already. Most jobs are under-appreciated in terms of financial reward and it would be hard to do without them. Civilisation by its very existence requires that people work together in many different fields that collectively keep the whole machine functioning. So I'll not be breaking new ground if I say that my choice would be the farmers. Without them, we would not eat. And yet they are treated with utter disdain and called names like hick and hayseed. Without them, there would be no civilsation and the cities would die. Even were they to be as rich as we imagine them to be, they would still be undervalued. The very least we should pay them is our respect. |
