"The Yellow Buttoned Jacket" was written by abel in late May in 2014 ~ it is a delightful read and there is nothing for it - but to include a verse or two...
Excerpt!
The jacket dreamed of trousers
With matching hat and tie
The captain dreamed of treasures
And sweet apple butter pie
Now it’s true the captains sailing days
Upon the mighty seas
Were now in toadstool valley
Upon lake memories
"Lucky For Some. ('55 words' contest.)" - Is a clever little story. First created September 14th, 2008 for a 55 Word Contest (These' are quite hard to do) - and just 4 lines long. It reminds me of another contest, 50 Words Exactly with a similar example: "The Handkerchief" - and subject! Great minds think alike! Happy 13th Anniversary!
"Mayfly" by Beholden written in September 2019 with 24 Syllables in a
3-7-6-8 sequence. Just four lines long - the writer had to remove it from their port to make space! Now revived for our pleasure! Happy Second Year Anniversary at WDC!
"They Gave To All..." by LegendaryMask❤️ created: May 13th, 2021 is a Free Verse poem written for not only family but the community at large and is a heart-felt tribute commemorating 'Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and even D-Day'. Nicely set on the page - nil errors detected. Always nice to read a shared tribute and memory of those who have served their community.
"The Light" written for the "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" by Jacky never disappoints the reader - there is an infinite amount of story telling in this writer - who - I will say it again and again - WRITES A STORY A DAY! That must have created some kind of record here!!
This story with the prompt 'light' - I think ... is quite dark also - but does have a strange and compelling twist in the tale. Another great story in their port! What a collection!
"Life's Lesson's" is written by NewbiePixie1984 The genre is labeled as poem but it could easily qualify for a philosophical view point and observation.
I think that, given that a reader may have expectations after noting the genre, that some spacing - representing "thought and direction changes" might make this piece work better. As it it, I had to mentally separate the ideas, myself.
I think that the writer meant determine when the wrote...
you make, even as a child can detriment on what kind of adult you will become.
This item is written by Newbie - Malobabrian and is story
about behaviour and consequences - not just for children - but for parents as well! After all, parents are the guardians of their children's future! Well done!

I bring you the Queen of Flash! Jacky - who writes a story EVERY Day - this one's called: "The Toaster Incident" - it's a short manual on 'How To Save A Marriage' (Read between the lines .
No, not really ... it IS about a toaster, of which a married couple has to choose - from several options - ordinarily a recipe for divorce, I'd say... but the writer turns it all into a virtue with a winning finale!
Using the prompt to create an exciting story under 300 words. The genre states that it is 'action;adventure' ... is there a 'suspense' category? I thought that the story could easily have been longer - there was plenty of material to work with. Well done!
"The Next Barks You Hear" was written by ♫~ Kenword~♫ - who is one of the writer's Celebrating their WDC Anniversary's - Happy 11th WDC To You!
This writer knows how to write a great, entertaining yarn! Who hasn't suffered at least once in their life from barking dogs (or annoying noises from neighboring properties) - Yes! It's enough to make you... MOVE!

All of this information was conveyed while Martin studied and petted the frosty sweat rolling down the amber bottle containing his beer. The conversation, though friendly, was delaying his next dose of medicating brew...
"Toothache" by one of {iteem:1565040} highlighted writers, jenjenta Celebrating their 3rd WDC Anniversary! Congratulations!
Boy! Do I know about Toothache! - it shouldn't have been funny - but I found that there were definitely moments, which were LOL Funny. The only thing that was lacking was the 'pace on the page'... I would set it out with more interesting WDC text options and some more separations between paragraphs for reading appeal. Never mind all that - it was a great story!

"Snowbird" written by Anniversary Member, toni is a Free Verse Poem of lovliness ~ reminiscent of "The Little Match Girl" which is a literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen.
I say this, because, like the bird in this poem, the little match girl was caught in snow too. This poem may be wistful but it has gravitas.
A paradox is a rhetorical device or a self-contradictory statement that can actually be true. So, tuesday appears to have written something which, for some reason - also reminds me of Oscar Wilde - who was famous for short, pithy Bon Mots such as:
–Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.
–I am not young enough to know everything.
–I think that God in creating Man somewhat overestimated his ability.
–Morality, like art, means drawing a line someplace.
This writer has Mr Wilde's ability of witty, contradictory statements: here is an example..
My dislike of writing intensifies with each successive second as the introspective invasion destroys my desire by minutely masking any sense of pleasure, until the day I no longer feel compelled to pick up a pen...
...Enthralled by the appearance of the scrawls, the loops and curves, the sharp lines and the blank margins, I conspire with myself to create my own unique inscriptions.
I think Jacky IS my favourtie - certainly, most read - writer at WDC - So go check out their portfolio! You'll find plenty of gems there!
This is a story about friends... and like so many of this story-teller's writings, I often feel that that they just might be true! - If not, Jackie is a most convincing story-teller!
Today, Twiga is celebrating 14 Years at WDC! So I am choosing a short story called "Glory Hog: A Fable"
This short story ends before a conclusion - a bit like a book precis - leaving the reader wanting more!
I especially liked the witty lines which popped up in the story
Dan Maple was a Pig-Man Humanimal from the Deep South,...he was an uncharacteristically bad sport among Humanimals, always boasting and gloating, you could say he was even a bit of a ‘Ball Hog’.
Today, Twiga is celebrating 14 Years at WDC! So I am choosing a short story called "Glory Hog: A Fable" from their portfolio for highlighting. There are lots of goodies in this port but I am fond of short stories and fables, in particular.

"The Bird" by Ronski was given an Awardicon for this poem and it deserves one! An aa bb cc rhyming schema - 2 Stanzas.
I really liked all the descriptive words to describe the bird's plight - the whole poem tells a wonderful story. All the references to Anton's play 'The Seagull' and postcard art of Carl Rohrig, 1981 were interesting, too... I wasn't familiar with Carl Rohrig's postcard art - after looking it up, I can say that enjoyed it too.
"Marshmallows and Me" - BeHereBook has created the image displayed from a real trip: " Celebrating my arrival at the active lava flow, Kilauea, Hawaii" - and I think that I see her toasting marshmellows over the heat of the natural hot lava there! - Reminds me of Rotorua in New Zealand - Hell's Gate, for instance.
Happy Memories ~ and Happy 17th WDC Anniversary too!
This item, "The Dead Letter" was created: May 8th, 2011 by Liam who is, this month Celebrating 10 Year of Membership at WDC ~ Congratulations!
I thought that this was going to be a Science Fiction story, but no - simply inspirational, as the genre states. ... Wasn't it lucky that the lady of the house still lived there! I only know one person who hasn't moved in the 33 years I've known them. This was a lovely story, even though it was tinged with sadness.
"White Tale" was created: August 7th, 2007 by Gene who - this month is going to be Celebrating 14 Years' Membership at WDC ~ Congratulations!
A very nicely written vignette. I wondered if the creature was a spider at first, but when I re-read it, the creature was more clearly defined, of course. Nicely done, no errors detected.
To me, this short poem is written about Cricket, the game but the philosophy expressed in the precise and well-planned Ghazal could be - just that! A philosophy for living. In any case, I am in awe. It's hard to review someone who is 5 Stars and waaaaaay above my own ability, but this poem and its academic author deserve to be highlighted.
Congratulations, by the Way on 18 Years' Membership at WDC!
~ Happy 5th WDC Anniversary! ~ "The final End" was written by webscratched - and although they say English is not their first language, they have done a great job of describing final moments. Very engaging and hopeful, too! One likes to believe that the end would be just like this, actually.
Nicely set out on the page and the story was well paced, keeping this reader interested all the way to the end.
Item "Dear Nigel" was created: March 9th, 2021 - just before the birth of this much desired child's ETA on Planet Earth! - and another Anniversary awaits the writer ~ on April 25th (ANZAC Day - Soldiers Rememberance Day - for New Zealand and Australian Soldiers)- 2016 - Happy 5th WDC Anniversary!
Mum says: "We've been calling you Nigel this whole time ..." I wonder if the parents kept the name, afterall? - What a wonderful thing to read and to know that this child will be welcomed and well cared for with an assured future!
"Describing a Woman" was written on this day 25th April - back in 2004 and the writer, Zaring joined WDC in 2003! Happy 18th Anniversary!
I loved the following lines While the writer says that they're describing women - I think that the inclusion of Young Women would be more accurate .. the older we get - the less inclined we are to succumb to whimsy... sadly.
A white linen dress
A strand of pearls
A moon lit walk
Along the shore
