Using on my Nov 2024 NaNoWriMo experience

Getting ready for NaNoWriMo

Activity:

World Weavers' Workshop  (13+)
30 exercises to help you outline the setting for your novel
#2274535 by Tileira

This exercise will begin on Sunday 9/1/24. The plan:

Follow the exercises in the activity.

Write at least 15 minutes a day

My story ideas.

Sci-Fi. I have written a total of one story in that genre and it felt comfortable. I may expand that story

Biographical story. With a zillion to select from, I may work with the essay I wrote about Autism.

Love/romance. Young love, not things with graphic stuff. Nothing beyond a kiss. A character who could be a role model for young adults

I may just put my ideas in a hat and draw one.

I am so blogging about this meme. Used for blogger survey.

Unlike last year when I was juggling school, family, and other projects during birthday week, I am out of school, (I earned my Bachelor's degree in Communications this week), and have tons of time to participate in a number of activities. Luckily I got a reminder from WakeUpAndLive️~Happiness about her activity doing blogging every day of birthday week. That should be the first thing I do each day.

Today would have been my dad's 99th birthday. I don't remember making as big deal on his birthday like we did mine and my siblings' birthdays. I do have photos of a couple of birthdays where he is all smiles. He was most often all smiles unless a project he was doing around the house needed something at the hardware store or lumberyard. He would send my mom there and she would always find the correct thing. They made an effective team.

I better get busy and finish up writing projects for August. I also have a few more reviews I have listed to complete.

It is 2:25 am in my time zone. Not unusual for me to be up at this hour. I did not get up until after 10 am this morning!

I am puzzled by something. When you regularly read and note a blog and don't have the action reciprocated, what is one supposed to think/do?

Today is the 21st birthday of my son's third born son. I was in the delivery room to watch this special young man's delivery. After waiting a very long time in there, the doctor needed to assist nudging him out and that was his quiet entry into the world. Only a few gusty cries and he was in my record book as grandchild #7. I had the pleasure of living within close driving distance until he was 4. My son was transferred for his work to Georgia. The long distance relationship with grandchildren is hard. Luckily it is the age of technology which has helped us keep in touch, although not as often as I like.

We exchanged texts and he was not reticent in writing, "I love you, Grammy." I am beaming with pride of him and what he contributes to the world. Happy Birthday, Andyn!

Prompt: A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. Write about this in your Blog entry today.

I am a cat person. I am told our family Irish Setter jumped up on me when I was three which instilled a fear of dogs, particularly large dogs, from the get go.

My first cat's name was Gunther. That was the first name of one of the fictitious cops in the TV series "Car 54 Where are you?" His brother was name Frances after Gunther's partner Frances Muldoon in the TV show. I was 12.

My second cat's name was Buffy. Her story is here "Buffy. I was 30. After she was hit and killed by a car, it was a few years before I rescued kittens, a brother and sister named Shadow and Katrina.

Around the same time I got a shih-tzu as a birthday gift for a roommate. His name was Pugs-lei or Pugs for short. He was a puppy mill dog who was ready to be taken from a pet shop back to the mill to do whatever they do with male dogs who do not get sold within a certain length of time. His time was going to be up in a few days after I saw him. He was 11 weeks old. The roommate moved back to Chicago and said he did not want the dog any longer. He could have taken him and not doing so ended our friendship.

Pugs thought his person was the roommate. It took him a long while to bond with me. Once he did, I think I was a little ahead in the love department than him loving himself. He was so pretty, I can understand why he was stuck on himself. I allowed my cats the roam of the house and encouraged them sleeping in my human bed. Pugs would sleep in bed until I fell asleep. He would retreat to his favorite place to sleep under the bed.

I live with family now who got a Boston Terrier named Jack. Jack immediately selected me as his person. He loves me more than anyone else and much more than himself. If he is scolded for jumping in the kitty litter box he will retreat to my room, wiggle his way under his blanket and try to hide. (His blanket is MY cherished Snoopy blanket which is red. Dogs can see red, I believe). Anyway, as I write this he has nudged his way onto my lap. I have learned to type resting my elbows on his back. He thinks I am rubbing his back and will stay here until I am finished.

I am struggling with some math homework, but wanted to respond to this prompt. Princess Megan's prompts are the best ones!

BCOF Insignia

Prompt: Free Write

I don't recall a free write ever as a prompt on BCOF. I have something to say about simplicity and clean work. If you have something to say, an opinion, a belief, or whatever it is on your mind, say it. Keeping silent gets you nowhere.

Clean up your act. Having over 2700 "sent" emails I did not even know were stored on my port is absurd. Keeping blog entries for over a year is a burden. Keeping old stagnant stories is taking up room better suited to be sent to my personal archives and not on this site. Everything I do is backed up.

I am a detail oriented person. I have details about just about everything and everyone I care about. Leaving things to memory does not help others understand what makes you who you are.

I was reprimanded once for having a friend who was not your typical desirable management material. I was urged to not be seen with her anymore or my career would not advance. This friend was verbally ridiculed and looked down upon. She did not understand why the haters hated. She took herself out of this world.

We are a nano second from having the tides turn on us. You can make decisions as if your life depended on them. But none of them really do. The silly ones, not serious like shelter, food, and the basics of living. I will stop because my thoughts are getting scattered.

Prompt: If you were an Olympic Athlete, which event would you be in?

I would be a gymnast in the Olympics. I was quite a good tumbler in 5th grade. I was able to do forward hand springs and things. I injured a toe and was on the sidelines. I did not participate again until my first year of college. Mainly because I went to three different high schools. My freshman year I did not do well enough to be selected for the competition team so that was that last time I was on any gymnastic equipment.

I am in awe of the gymnasts currently competing at the highest levels. Their tricks are insanely difficult and risky. I prefer being a spectator, but marching into the huge stadium in an opening ceremony would have be incredible.

Prompt: Pets and Animals
What is your relationship to your pets if you have any? And do you like animals in general?

I love animals. My first one was a gray cat with white paws and a gray chin named Gunther. I had a few others then my favorite cat, Buffy, who was hit by a car when she was old. Pugs-lei was my shihtzu dog I called Pookie. I now have a Boston Terrier named Jack. There is another dog here named Henry, and 3 cats named Ethan, Ron, and Harriet. Ethan is moving out with my grandson who just purchased his own home.

Buffy was intelligent. I could never figure out how she could open my bedroom door when it was tightly closed. Pookie got hit by a car when he pulled away from me running to a child motioning to him from across my street. He broke his pelvis and after an operation still functioned quite well until he had to be put to sleep with medical issues. Jack is almost 2 years old. He picked me as his person. He does not beg for people food. He sits quietly at my feet waiting for me to accidentally drop a morsel.

Ethan is mostly feral. The vet who we got him from left that part out when we adopted her. The litter, said the vet, was from a client who could not afford to keep them. We suspect he was about 4 weeks old when we got him, did not get the attention needed by the mother who may have been absent, and is a biter. I can handle him a little bit before he attacks with his claws outstretched. My grandson gets along okay with him and wants to give him a house with no other cats to compete with. Ron is a part Maine coon orange cat who has to be brushed often. He has a mane around his neck. Harriet was originally named Harry until she went in for her first shots and the vet advised us she was not a he.
