I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

This is an amazing story. However, I still advise caution. I've been on a date with someone who seemed great online, but I didn't click with him in-person at all. I've spoken with several obvious scammers as well. Ask yourself how well you really know him. Have you spoken with his friends? Has he spoken with your friends? How does he react when you mention your friends? Abusers often try to isolate their victims from friends so they have nowhere to run when their true colors are revealed. Is he asking you to travel a long distance all by yourself? Set up some reasonable safety rules for yourself and don't deviate from them.

When I got married in 2018, I married someone I knew in high school. He graduated in 2006, and I graduated in 2007. That's not the remarkable part, though. The remarkable part is that one of my online friends flew all the way from Wales to California to be my maid of honor. She brought a traveling companion for safety, which was absolutely the right decision. My husband, his brother, and I burst out singing "50 Nifty United States" when they finally walked out of customs.

This might indeed turn out wonderfully for you, but please keep a healthy sense of caution as you proceed.

Try avoiding forms of the verb “to be” such as am, are, is, was, were, etc. This is known as passive language. Using more colorful verbs can greatly strengthen your writing.

At first glance, it looks like there's a typo s on the end of "never." However, you could say that s was an intentional, artistic choice. The s represents a smile that doesn't make sense. It's there even when it's not appropriate to the situation.

I feel this so much right now. I recently remembered how my first love told me to stop shouting about 15 years ago. Shortly before I met him, I was working at a scout camp where I had to shout all day long. Before I worked at the scout camp, my parents wanted me to be quiet at home. Now, my husband is telling me to talk louder, and my parents are telling my son to be quieter when he visits. I only tell him to be quieter when we visit the library. I love hearing his loud voice.

That's a rather sadistic method of target practice. Why shoot the deer at all if the intent is not to kill? A bandage and some antiseptic won't take away the pain, and now the deer is easy pickings for predators. Is that the point? To feed the wolves?
